Liquid I.V. vs LMNT vs Oasis: What’s the difference?
Share
Liquid I.V. and LMNT are indisputably the market leaders in the electrolyte space, at #1 and #2, respectively. So how, then, does Oasis compare? Well, we’ll tell you.
Let’s start with Liquid I.V., the “OG” electrolyte brand. Liquid I.V. was one of the first electrolyte brands in the market, founded all the way back in the dark days of electrolytes (2012) by a former business student named Brandin Cohen. Liquid I.V. was made after Cohen noticed just how ineffective the current electrolyte brands were for athletes, notably companies like Gatorade, Powerade, and Pedialyte. He strived to create a “better” electrolyte—one that really worked.
So, did he?
Yes and no. Liquid I.V. was, we confess, better than the existing brands in raw hydration potential, but from a macro lens is still far from optimal. It was (and still is) chock full of sugar, at over 11g in one stick. It mixes that sugar with stevia leaf extract, giving it a super sweet, unnatural taste. They also don’t have calcium, chloride, or magnesium—three of the essential electrolytes. They do have Vitamin C, but sadly for them it seems to be added purely as a marketing tactic. 100mg+ is generally considered necessary for immune support, but Liquid I.V. only has 62mg.
Their sodium count also leaves something to be desired. The body sweats out 800mg of sodium (salt) after an hour of working out in the sun, and the human body pees out even more after a night drinking. Nonetheless, Liquid I.V. only has 500mg of sodium in each stick. That’s enough for about 40 minutes of sweating, or just a few drinks at the bar. So much for being effective.
But let’s talk about LMNT, #2. LMNT is the athlete’s electrolyte, or so they say. At over 1,000mg of sodium per 6g it markets itself as extremely effective for endurance athletes and people who sweat for a living, which may well be true. The only issue, of course, is that 1,000mg of salt is a lot of salt. In fact, in raw salt density LMNT is almost 20% as salty as the ocean.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that LMNT has a lot to be desired taste wise. Their solution to remedy the briny taste of their ocean-like salt-content was to pack their sticks full of stevia. Like, A LOT of stevia. Yes, the aftertaste is probably exactly what you imagine it to be. Stay Salty, my friends.
So, that brings us to Oasis. We made Oasis with one goal: to create an electrolyte mix that was tasty, healthy, and effective. Like LMNT we’re committed to zero sugar, but unlike LMNT we didn’t use a whole ton of stevia. Instead, we pair a pinch of stevia with allulose, a natural sweetener derived from figs that’s 70% as sweet as sugar with the same refreshing, natural taste. Unlike the vast majority of stevia products, our product has zero stevia aftertaste. (Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself).
Alongside our natural sweeteners, we use natural flavoring and natural coloring. We committed to a zero-junk hydration mix. But don’t tell that to Liquid I.V., though—they might get mad.
As for effective, Oasis is packed with 2,950mg of all five key electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and chloride), which includes 800mg of sodium, the most important electrolyte towards hydration. That’s more than Liquid I.V.'s paltry 500mg but less than LMNT ultra-salty 1,000mg. We also added 150mg of Vitamin C to help with immunity and assist in recovery.
There you have it, folks. That’s the crux of the differences between Liquid I.V., LMNT, and Oasis. If you haven’t already I’d recommend taking a look at the comparative chart on the drinkoasis.com homepage to see it visually, and while you’re at it… mosey on over to our shop and check out Oasis for yourself. You won’t regret it.
